Spanish Civil War posters in the collection of the Hoover Institution Archives. The posters No.1 and No.2 are from the anarchist movement, the C.N.T. / F.A.I. The Catalan slogan at top reads “They shall not pass” (‘they’ being Franco's forces). The date on the poster No.2 commemorates the day on which the Civil War and the ensuing social revolution began. The poster No. 3 is from the defense of Madrid; the legend reads: “The Bear of Madrid Will Destroy Fascism.” Nazi Germany and fascist Italy sent military forces to aid Franco in the Civil War.
